Duchess Says

Duchess Says do hard edged experimental electro punk not unlike fellow Canadians MSTRKRFT and combine it with girl garage vocals to create an upbeat, intense musical show of moog rock and modern techno. They formed in 2005 and are currently out on tour with Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the UK. Originally from Montreal, the aim they hope to achieve above all is to promote their Canadian Church of Budgerigars (yes, that's a serious church), 'decontextualise the rock', and have a great time going about it. They impressed at this years CMJ music marathon, although their eccentric lead singer A-Claude is rumoured to have spent the large part of their set screaming and gesturing in amongst the crowd.



Their debut release was a long time in the making, Anthologie Des 3 Perchoirs came out on 15th April last year (despite their formation in 2005) via Alien8/Back Yard recordings - and their latest 7", Fire Baptized Species followed their June EP Begging The Three T's in September 2009. Typically this band will perform just about anywhere, they've done golf courses and building sites - but on their latest stretch with garage pioneers YYY's they are sticking to registered venues, finishing their fall tour at the Bournemouth O2 academy in December.
