At a time when British first lady of folk Laura Marling is moving to international recognition with her second album 'I Speak Because I Can', her similarly initialled and equally youthful americana counterpart Lissie Maurus (stage name simply 'Lissie') is just warming up her target market for her debut full length, due June 7, 2010 on Fat Possum/Columbia Records. With a sound lying somewhere between Marling, other traditional American artists such as Alela Diane and her less well-known contemporaries such as Sharon Van Etten - her stunning voice and lightly fingerpicked acoustic rock songs capture her well-travelled past in the form of an unassuming album selection recorded in Nashville with Kings of Leon producer Jacquire King. With a much less confrontational and more reflective air than her counterparts, the songs build with a soulful intensity which comes across in every recording.

Off the back of two universally received EPs, 2009's Why You Runnin' and this month's In Sleep - Lissie looks all set to make it in 2010 in true BBC Radio 1 fashion. Supporting her debut album with a UK Tour, the Illnois native is set to take on the British market with the full major label force - having already recorded Live Lounge-style covers of Lady Gaga and Metallica at SXSW Festival and picking up glowing features in the Boston Globe, Sunday Times Culture and even Marie Claire magazine. Lissie's maturity within her musical field, as well as her versatility and showmanship out of it, evidenced by her covers, show her up as a certainty for success this summer on both sides of the Atlantic.
